A cataract is a cloudy patch that forms in the lens of the eye and makes vision misty or blurred. Surgery is the only way to remove a cataract: the cloudy lens is taken out and replaced with a clear plastic lens. If both eyes are affected, they are treated on separate days.

घरमा हेरचाहAftercare at home

• आँखा नमाड्नुहोस्।Do not rub your eye.

• आँखाको makeup नगर्नुहोस्, र आँखामा पानी पर्न नदिनुहोस् — goggles लगाएर पनि पौडी नखेल्नुहोस्।Do not wear eye makeup, and keep water out of the eye — do not go swimming, even with goggles.
• शल्यक्रियापछि केही घण्टा दृष्टि धमिलो हुनु सामान्य हो र केही दिनमा सुधार हुँदै जान्छ।Vision is often blurry for a few hours after surgery and improves over several days.

खतराका संकेत — तुरुन्त उपचार लिनुहोस्Warning signs — get urgent care

• सुधार हुनुको सट्टा बिग्रँदै गएको दृष्टि — नयाँ धमिलोपन, अस्पष्टता वा छायाँ देखिनु।Vision that gets worse instead of better — new cloudiness, blurriness or shadows.
• आँखामा बढ्दै गएको दुखाइ वा रातोपन।Increasing pain or redness in the eye.
• अचानक दृष्टि गुम्नु — तुरुन्त आँखा विशेषज्ञको सहायता लिनुहोस्।Any sudden loss of vision — get urgent help from an eye specialist.

जोखिम र जटिलताहरूRisks and complications

• गम्भीर जटिलता दुर्लभ हुन्छ। सम्भावित समस्याहरूमा धमिलोपन, अस्पष्टता वा छायाँ जस्ता दृष्टि समस्या पर्छन्।Serious complications are rare. Possible problems include vision problems such as cloudiness, blurriness or shadows.
• Retina छुट्टिनु (आँखाको पछाडिको तह खुकुलो हुनु)।Detached retina (the layer at the back of the eye peeling away).
• आँखाभित्रको संक्रमण।Infection inside the eye.
• आँखाभित्र रगत बग्नु।Bleeding inside the eye.
• आँखामा सुन्निने र रातोपन (inflammation)।Inflammation (swelling and redness) in the eye.
• नयाँ लेन्सको स्थानसम्बन्धी समस्या।Problems with the position of the new lens.
• महिना वा वर्षपछि, लेन्स राख्ने आवरण धमिलो हुन सक्छ (posterior capsule opacification) र दृष्टि फेरि धमिलो हुन सक्छ — यसको उपचार हुन्छ।Months or years later, the capsule holding the lens can cloud over (posterior capsule opacification) and blur vision again — this can be treated.
